I’ve had poorly legs on and off for many years, at around 6 or 7 years old I had my knee regrooved. Which helped for many years.
However, in the last few years, I have started suffering from arthritis and nerve damage.
Which means I can’t bounce and play as I used to and my tail doesn’t really wag too much anymore.
As well as being put on an anti-inflammatory medication, it was suggested I should try hydrotherapy.
What is Hydrotherapy?
For me, this means going into a tank of water, with someone. Where they give me a nice massage (well sometimes it’s not nice, there’s this area on my front where it’s owchie) and they make we walk on a treadmill!
I go mostly once a fortnight and despite the fact the humans thought I would hate being locked in a tank of water, I really don’t mind it.
After all, what pooch doesn’t want to be the centre of attention!

Does it Actually Make a Difference?
I guess the big question for dogs and their humans are if it makes a difference.
The answer for me is 100% yes.
There is a huge difference in how I walk and feel since starting out hydrotherapy and even the humans say they can see it as well.
How Much Does it Cost?
Of course, the cost is a big factor, Mobility Matters charges £40 per session.
However, my insurance covers up to £1000 worth of complementary treatment so that’s 25 sessions paid for!
However, I’ve heard the humans say that some insurances only cover around 5 treatments.
So perhaps it is something you should take into account when choosing your insurance.
Conclusion.
From both mine and the humans perspective, hydrotherapy is a must.
If you are wondering if it’s worth it, give it a try.
Worried your pet won’t like the tank? The humans worried that about me as well and honestly I’m fine.
The worst that can happen is you find it’s not for your pet and you don’t go again.
The best, well mobility can be up just like it is for me!
